{"id":2331,"date":"2017-04-08T00:20:39","date_gmt":"2017-04-07T22:20:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.spookymarion.com\/?p=2331"},"modified":"2017-04-17T12:36:28","modified_gmt":"2017-04-17T10:36:28","slug":"marions-ruins-part-iii","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.spookymarion.com\/?p=2331","title":{"rendered":"Marion&#8217;s Ruins, Part III"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Back in 2013 when I put together the photos that would become\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.spookymarion.com\/?p=1819\" target=\"_blank\">Marion\u2019s Ruins: A Photo Essay<\/a>, I never imagined I would at some point\u00a0have enough photos for a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.spookymarion.com\/?p=1819\" target=\"_blank\">part two<\/a> let alone a part three. But here\u00a0I am with a few more, some of them recent and some of them a few years old.<\/p>\n<p>Over the past couple of years, there has been a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bostonglobe.com\/opinion\/2015\/10\/11\/the-appeal-ruin-porn\/0J9GNcN2K5HefHDWDORKtI\/story.html\" target=\"_blank\">lot of discussion<\/a> about why we find abandoned houses and crumbling building so fascinating. Personally, I think images like these are symbolically powerful in that they remind us\u00a0that\u00a0all of our endeavors\u00a0&#8211; indeed, all of us &#8211; are ultimately at nature&#8217;s mercy. The school became part of the Elgin Consolidated School District in 1960. By 1975 the building was only being used to house administrative offices. However, after these offices relocated to\u00a0Kenner Road, the building\u00a0fell into a state of disrepair.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2340\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2340\" style=\"width: 1000px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2340 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.spookymarion.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/newbloomingtonschool.jpg\" alt=\"newbloomingtonschool\" width=\"1000\" height=\"667\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.spookymarion.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/newbloomingtonschool.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/www.spookymarion.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/newbloomingtonschool-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2340\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">New Bloomington School in 2014. It used to belong to my aunt and uncle, and I have a lot of good memories of cookouts and hayrides there. I recently heard that someone was attempting to fix the place back up.
